A Woodworker’s Notebook
Jeff Gorman
Drawings of a Chair of the High Wycombe School
This 19th Century chair made by Tom Sutton of Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire, England, has a stained beech back with a rush seat. It's design is based on an 18th Century model
This Ash chair was made some 40 years ago, using shop-made rounding and trapping planes (ie, without a lathe). The seat is of woven cord
A more recent version made with rounders and traps, one of which was designed to make concave curves. The seat is woven with ‘Shaker’ tape
